Lights by TENA is supporting Early Days courses run by NCT, the UK’s largest charity for parents, to reach more new parents than ever before.
While many parents-to-be expect to attend an antenatal course, there is often a focus on preparing for labour and birth, rather than the early weeks and months with a baby. NCT Early Days courses address this need, providing an interactive space where parents can support each other, explore challenges and dilemmas they experience and become more confident parents.
Early Days courses, facilitated by qualified NCT postnatal leaders, run for six weeks and are attended mainly by new mums and their babies. They cover topics from changing responsibilities and relationships, to day to day life with a new baby including sleeping and crying. NCT research carried out in 2010 found 56 per cent of women attending an NCT Early Days course said they felt fairly or very confident about being a mother before their course. This jumped to 89 per cent afterward completing the course.
